Every second Audi currently sold is a diesel. What today seems a matter of course caused a furore 20 years ago: back then Audi revolutionised the market with the first 2.5 l TDI engine. And, in the meantime, developments such as common-rail technology have made the TDI even more efficient. Piezo injectors ensure a fine, precise distribution of fuel.

Thus, engines have become around 30 % more economical since the first TDI was introduced onto the market, while specific output has been increased. It seemed only the logical conclusion then to put a diesel-powered engine into a racing car. And the trial was a great success. In 2006, the Audi R10 TDI was the first diesel-powered racing car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans – and it has repeated this victory many times over, at last 2010.
The TDI engine available for the Audi A7 Sportback will of course operate with intelligent common rail diesel technology. With a hefty 200 Nm of torque, the 180 kW 3.0 TDI quattro accelerates your A7 Sportback from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.
